My writing this year is like a roller coaster My writing this year has been like a roller coaster because I’ve had a lot of ups and downs this year. I say that because at the beginning of the year I could not write like I can now. I could not use commas in the correct way and I would always misspell words. Now that the year is almost over my writing is better than I thought it could ever be because I had amazing teachers who helped me all through the year like at the end of the roller coaster it is a smooth ride before you get off. Like a roller coaster my writing has been unexpected because it has changed so much in this year at the beginning of the year I could not even do good on an essay and that I know how to use commas and punctuations better I can do better on essays and know that I have done better since then.
Using the composing domain I have learned how to structure my paragraphs in my essays and you can tell that I have a central idea and you actually had to look really hard for it before and sometimes I didn’t even have one at all. Now that I know how to structure my writing you can read my writing and actually understand it to. When I have an idea I can expand on it and make it sound even better and make the reader want to know what happens next. My writing used to be really bad as in it was not organized and my paragraphs didn’t make since because the sentences in the paragraph didn’t go together. With my writing now you can see my central idea, how I elaborate on paragraphs, how my paragraphs tie in together, and you can see that it is organized and that I put a lot of effort into what I write and where I put it.
Using the written expression domain I can set the tone in the story that I’m writing. I can also find my voice in the story so that you can actually picture me speaking to you. In this domain I get to focus on the tone and the voice in the story and it is important to have those things otherwise your stories will be boring and that is why I didn’t do well when we had to write stories or essays because you could never find the tone or my voice in the story. I’m also writing to adults so I have to use appropriate words and correct information and I didn’t really do that at the beginning of the year and now that I know what to do my essays or stories are better and I’m getting better grades on them . In this domain I get to shape and control my stories so they can mean something to the person who reads it because without that it wouldn’t really be a story that they would want to read again.
In the usage/ mechanics domain I have better sentence formation and I didn’t use to have that I would have run on sentences and I would always get points off for that. I have also gotten better at spelling and punctuations. What has helped me the most was formatting my paragraphs so that you would understand what I was trying to convey? With the punctuations had helped me especially with my commas and where and when to put them. Spelling has been my weak point because I’m not the strongest speller and I would always have mistakes and that is something that I have improved on during the year.
